Regimen (2015—2017)

Capturing the medicinal regimens of 100 young women living in urban capitals, Regimen (2015—2017) reflects on a general pressure in Western society for people, notably women, to outperform their natural dispositions. In April 2017, their testimonies will be heard in public restrooms across the city of Montreal — a space, at once private and shared, visible and invisible, where one is confronted with the self and the limitations of the body.

Amanda Vincelli is an artist based in Montreal and Los Angeles. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Photography and Media at the California Institute of the Arts. Former studies in health sciences inform her practice rooted in research and imagery, often involving the collection of information and the documentation of human subjects. Much of her work deals with the overstimulation and hyper-self-awareness of omnipresent digital technology—the streamlining of capitalism into personal life—humans as content producers and consumers, and the vulnerability, dread, but also nostalgia that result from these roles. Her most recent work and research is concerned with the commodification of creativity, start-up culture, as well as the role of technology in health care and reproduction.

À travers les habitudes médicinales de cent jeunes femmes vivant en milieux urbains, Regimen (2015—2017) réfléchit aux exigences de la société occidentale qui encourage à tout prix le surpassement de soi. En 2017, leurs témoignages pourront être écoutés dans les toilettes publiques individuelles de la Ville de Montréal, une espace à la fois partagé et privé, visible et invisible; un espace où nous sommes confrontés à nous-mêmes, particulièrement aux limites de notre corps.

Amanda Vincelli est une artiste basée à Montréal et Los Angeles. Elle complète présentement sa maîtrise en arts visuels et médiatiques à la California Institute of the Arts. Ces études antérieures en sciences de la nature informent beaucoup sa pratique artistique qui est ancrée dans la recherche et l’image, faisant souvent recours à la prise de données et la documentation de sujets humains. Ses projets s’intéressent à la surstimulation et l’hyper-conscience de soi issues des technologies et réseaux sociaux; le capitalisme qui infiltre de plus en plus la vie privée et nous transforme en perpétuels producteurs et consommateurs de contenu. Ses projets concernent notamment la vulnérabilité, l’anxiété et la nostalgie résultant de ces rôles. Plus récemment, son travail et ses recherches se penchent sur la commodification de la créativité, la culture “start-up,” ainsi que sur le rôle de la technologie dans le domaine de la santé et de la procréation.
