Wiggle is a wearable art and performance extravaganza that invites artists and designers to create fantasy wigs and headpieces that are then worn in the fashion element of the avant-garde variety show. Combined with innovative performances and a fashion-forward crowd, this show is an out-of-this-world event celebrating all things ‘Wig’.

Wiggle started many moons ago in Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan and moved to Vancouver in 1995 along with multi-media artist collective ‘The House of Venus’ with Michael Venus at the helm. Venus celebrated Wiggle’s 20th year at The Vancouver Art Gallery and had been a part of the city’s fashion, drag and underground scene, launching many up-and-coming artists’ careers.

The annual showcase offers creative people of all stripes to escape reality, let go and live the fantasy. Wiggle attracts a diverse crowd that has included rock stars such as Michael Stipe of R.E.M. and Blondie’s very own Deborah Harry. Wiggle has also boasted some of the world’s leading stars of Drag Royalty including The Lady Bunny of Wigstock fame, Candis Cayne (I am Cait), Miss Guy of The Toilet Boys, and Perfidia of Patricia Fields fame.

The excitement for this event to finally land in Montreal is growing and the cast of local talent is amazing! We have hand-picked an extremely brilliant and diverse group of performers to captivate and dazzle utilizing this unique space with performance around every corner.

For this very special occasion we’re bringing in the legendary Joey Arias, a symbol of non-conventionality and originality. For decades, Joey has led the way in the New York performance art and the underground club scene in the late ’70s and ’80s. In the ’90s, he later became a fixture around the globe as an international Drag artist ‘channeling’ Billie Holiday with his awesome live performances.

Never Apart is a non-profit organization in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, determined to bring about social change and spiritual awareness through programming with global reach and impact.

Wiggle est un festival extravagant d’art portable et de performance qui invite artistes et designers à créer des perruques et des coiffes de fantaisie qui seront ensuite portées durant la portion mode de ce spectacle de variétés avant-gardiste. Combinant à cela des performances novatrices et une foule au style audacieux, ce spectacle est un événement hors du commun célébrant tout ce qui a attrait à la perruque.

Wiggle a vu le jour il y a belle lurette à Windsor en Ontario, ainsi qu’à Détroit au Michigan, avant de s’établir à Vancouver en 1995 avec le collectif d’artistes multimédia ‘The House of Venus’ mené par Michael Venus. Ce spectacle annuel donne la chance aux gens créatifs de toutes sortes d’échapper à la réalité, de lâcher prise et de faire le plein de fantaisie. Wiggle attire une foule diversifiée incluant par le passé des rock stars telles que Michael Stipe du groupe R.E.M., Alanis Morrisette et Deborah Harry, tête d’affiche du groupe Blondie. Wiggle peut aussi se vanter d’avoir accueilli quelques-unes des royautés mondiales du drag, comme l’habituée de Wigstock The Lady Bunny, Candis Cayne qu’on a récemment vue dans I am Cait, Miss Guy de The Toilet Boys ainsi que Perfidia de Patricia Fields. Wiggle en décoiffera plus d’un samedi le 21 mai 2016 à Never Apart pour son premier événement de levées de fonds à Montréal!

Never Apart est un organisme à but non-lucratif établi à Montréal (Québec, Canada) déterminé à susciter un éveil de conscience et un changement social avec un impact et une portée mondiale grace à sa programmation.

L’enthousiasme pour la première montréalaise de cet événement est grandissant et la cuvée de talent local est formidable! Nous avons soigneusement sélectionné un ensemble d’artistes extrêmement fantastique et varié pour captiver et éblouir, avec des performances présentées dans chaque recoin de cet unique espace.

Pour cette occasion très spéciale, nous présentons le légendaire Joey Arias, un symbole d’originalité et de non-conformisme. Des décennies durant, Joey a ouvert la voie dans les sphères new-yorkaises de l’art de la performance et des clubs underground de la fin des années 70 et 80. Durant les années 90, il est par la suite devenu un incontournable autour du globe en tant qu’artiste drag international, avec ses impressionnants spectacles où il s’inspire de Billie Holiday.
